As the Manager of Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Case Cart, you will oversee, guide and audit all clinical operations and compliance related, but not limited to cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of instrumentation for Hoag Hospital’s Department of Surgery. You will establish departmental quality goals by developing and implementing policies and procedures, demonstrate extensive and complete knowledge as well as outside regulatory agency requirements.
The Manager will also be responsible for daily staff coverage, daily review of surgery schedule, managing of direct reports; Instrument Technicians, Certified Instrument Technicians, Lead SPD Technicians, SPD Supervisor and SPD Clerical Support Staff while projecting an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.
Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients on a 24-hour basis, and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag. Assumes daily responsibility for coordination of the unit patient flow to assure the most efficient utilization of the unit. Collaborates with other units and medical staff to ensure that the schedule runs efficiently in accordance with policies and protocols. Acts as a resource person for clinical/non clinical issues. Evaluates the level of patient care delivered in the unit and recommends changes to ensure compliance with established standards of care. Develops and manages department Perioperative Services computer system. Develops, manages and ensures integration of Perioperative Services information systems and hospital interfaces and systems. Directs and/or performs troubleshooting of equipment and/or procedural problems including equipment repair. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience
Required : High School Graduation. Minimum of 5 years recent experience in Sterile Processing, Central Service or related Perioperative Department in an Acute Care Hospital.
Skills or Other Qualifications Required : Rapid decision making and collaboration skills to provide continuity/consistency for the daily OR schedule administration. Working knowledge of management concepts. Possesses strong communication skills. Interpersonal and problem solving skills to interact with patients and families, staff, physicians, physician offices and co-workers. Communicates verbally and in writing to all levels of personnel. Demonstrates flexibility and collaboration in meeting the service needs of the department.
License and Certifications Required: Preferred : IAHCSMM certification preferred
