The Sterile Processing Technician performs cleaning, decontamination, processing, sterilization, packaging, distritbuting, storing and delivery of sterile goods, instruments, trays and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician will support all patient care services and be responsible for knowing all of the tools used in an operating room, clinic, and hospital departments, as well as, sterilizing and packaging instruments used during surgery.
The Sterile Processing Technician will also decontaminate, clean, process, assemble, store and distribute medical devices and supplies, and keep records associated with sterilization monitors. The Sterile Processing Tech will perform appropriate documentation for the sterile processing processes.
Flexibility in schedule required.
Education and Training Required:
Graduation from an accredited school for Surgical Technology or graduation from an accredited school for Sterile Processing.
Certification in Sterile Processing or CST.
Meets health requirements.
One year experience in instrument processing required.
Knowledge of aseptic principles preferred.

Occasionally sits while performing tasks of the role (scheduling, developing & reviewing protocols/procedures, wrapping instruments, ordering supplies).
Occasionally carry objects weighing less than 25 pounds.
Frequently walk and stand.
Occasionally bend to the floor, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach overhead to retrieve equipment and/or supplies.
Frequently handle objects, smell, feel, control knobs, switches and levers.
Frequently stand in the same position for an extended period of time.
Frequently twist i.e. while scrubbed in holding retractors and other instruments.

Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, above head, i.e. instrument pans.
Occasionally push up to 100 pounds.
Occasionally use sight capacities, including spatial, peripheral, colors & accommodation & depth perception.
Frequently use near and far vision while reviewing computer screens, gauges on equipment.
Frequently utilize simple reading skills, normal conversations.
Occasional exposure to comprehensive speech, both simple and complex writing skills, basic and complex math, basic computer skills.
Frequently exposed to low volume of speech with conversations with other members of the healthcare team.
Continual exposure to an inside, patient environment with occasional unpleasant odors or noises.
Frequent exposure to low light or glare conditions.
Frequent exposure to infectious blood/body fluids and diseases requiring infection control practices, red infectious waste.
Frequent exposure to cleaning agents, Cidex, Formalin.
Frequent potential for burns due to high heat from sterilizers and autoclaves.

Ability to work overtime and be on-call.
Frequently able to work independently and take direction from Processing Coordinator.
Frequently prioritize workflow while maintaining speed, accuracy and consistency with the change of surgery schedule, emergency cases or urgent clinic/hospital needs.
