In this role, you will accurately analyze and produce reliable test results for patient samples, perform and document quality control and proficiency samples for all assigned tests, and prioritize workflow to ensure acceptable standards of turn-around-time are maintained.
Processing patient, QC and proficiency samples using manual and/or automated methods
Performing a wide variety of tests, independently and with strict adherence to written protocols in all areas of the department
Prioritizing workflow to ensure that acceptable standards of turn-around-time for Stat and routine specimens are maintained
Confirming and notifying all critical values in a timely manner
Reviewing, evaluating, and interpreting test results, and coming to a reasonable conclusion as to the validity of those results before verifying them
Performing all routine daily, weekly, and monthly quality control and maintenance on schedule and without supervision
Accurately reporting test results and related technical and non-technical information to physicians, and other appropriate Medical Center personnel following established laboratory guidelines
Reporting technical and non-technical work-related problems to the appropriate laboratory personnel in a timely manner
Participating in Quality Assurance activities, including, but not limited to, performing proficiency testing, internal assessments, initiating event reports, and reviewing new/revised policies and procedures
Assisting in the teaching and training of new employees, students and physicians, which may include providing lectures on theories, principles and concepts of clinical laboratory science and practical applications via bench work
Assisting with assessment of reagent and supply inventory and uncrating and re-stocking of reagents and supplies
Handling other related functions as needed
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a closely related field
ASCP certification/eligibility as a Medical Technologist, HEW, AMT, or California, Florida, or New York State Certification preferred
Analytic ability to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional, scientific, technical and mathematical principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems, or design relatively complex systems and programs
Ability to exchange information on factual matters and/or relay patient’s needs to appropriate personnel
