The Sterilization Technician is responsible for handling, decontaminating, inspecting, packaging, sterilizing and properly documenting supplies, equipment, instruments and tooling to support sterilization and core operations, in conjunction with other business units. Responsible for aseptic transfer and efficient flow of all material and supplies to ensure safe and effective processing of all tissue forms. Additionally, responsible for performing logistical functions outside the sterilization area to enhance the flow of processing operations. Perform and maintain all Standard Work initiatives for sterilization areas. Perform and coordinate sanitation/disinfection of non-sterile areas. Maintain Kanban inventory of disposables/consumables and reusable items for all processing operation areas.
1. Demonstrate best practices described in all Standard Work Initiatives and SOPs. 2. Decontamination of reusable instrumentation/equipment and machinery 3. Load, unload and transfer autoclaved/sterilized items to designated locations and replenish using FIFO technique. 4. Coordinate transfer of tooling, supplies, equipment and instruments used in operations from processing area to the prep area for decontamination. 5. Transport sterilized instruments and equipment from Supply area to processing rooms. 6. Aseptic transfer of supplies into processing areas. 7. Aseptic transfer of donors into processing areas. (Jessup only) 8. Aseptic filling of cleaning canisters for disinfection of core areas. 9. Coordinate the Inventory management initiatives for the supply flow in an organized manner by using Kanban system. 10. Coordinate the supply, material flow utilized in each processing room to support the technician and process activities to enhance lean activities. 11. Perform and maintain a 5S workplace organization within all sterilization areas and core locations. 12. Sanitize all areas and equipment, used by processing operations, according to chemical disinfection protocols/SOPs. 13. Proper documentation of all forms and daily KPIs related to sterilization operations. 14. Perform the removal of commercial waste and regulated bio-waste from all cleanroom areas. 15. Maintain supplies and the inventory management as well as the 5S housekeeping protocols for all locker rooms and sterilization areas.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma; Surgical Technologist degree and/ or college coursework in the life sciences helpful
Minimum one to two years’ experience in one of the following areas:
Tissue Banking, Central Sterile Supply, Central Sterile Processing or Surgical Technician
Production experience in a sterile environment in the pharmaceutical or medical fields
Position requiring use of hand tools or procedures involving hand eye coordination
Specific Licenses and/or Certifications:
Preferred: Central Service Certification (CRCST)
Specialized Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities*:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Aseptic Clean room
Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work for up to four hours without a rest break.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
