POSITION SUMMARY: 10K Bonus to those with qualifying experience
Assists the surgical team to provide patient care for assigned patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of physical and technical requirements of surgical intervention: complex procedures, serves as resource person regarding instrumentation. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ability to scrub more than three specialties proficiently. Willingness to assist circulator and takes initiative to ensure availability of necessary equipment. Responsible for maintaining effective communication skills. Participates in monitoring and maintaining resources in specific department. Understands and contributes to the vision/mission and goals of the department. Works in a secure department with access to areas where medications are stored. Handles and labels medications on the sterile field under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
Assist the surgical team before, during, and after surgery. Participate in â��time-outâ�� and follows Universal Protocol Policy.
Place equipment and supplies in the operating room and arranges instruments according to preference cards.
Hand instruments and supplies to surgeon, holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs other technical tasks as directed by surgeon during operation.
Identify problems/concerns on the nursing unit and assists in developing resolutions in a positive, constructive manner.
Make a positive contribution to the morale of the unit/section/department. Participate in performance improvement teams/activities.
Demonstrate ability to provide appropriate care to patients of all ages.
Anticipate supplies and equipment needed by utilizing surgeonâ��s preference card.
Understand and demonstrate principles of asepsis. Use sterile technique when opening supplies and throughout procedure.
Review anatomy and physiology involved. Review operation of needed equipment for procedures.
Assist with proper positioning of patient.
Demonstrate Intra-operative knowledge and ability. Keep accurate count of needles, sharps, and instruments according to policy.
Use proper technique for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, and draping.
Review operation of equipment and supplies as personal needs dictate to remain current in ability to use and operate equipment and supplies.
EDUCATION Required: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION Required: Current CPR (AHA) Preferred: Successful completion of Surgical Technologists course from an accredited facility.
WORK EXPERIENCE Required: Minimum of two years experience. Preferred: Knowledge of hospital environment desired. Previous hospital and/or health care related experience preferred.
Skills Required: Must possess effective interpersonal skills, team building, problem solving, and critical thinking, coaching and mentoring.
Knowledge Required: Principles of asepsis
Other Required: Must be able to work variable shifts, holidays and/or weekends. Must be able to take call rotation when required. Must be able to perform all duties, including lifting and transferring, using proper body mechanics.
