| Description Job Summary The Physician Assistant - Surgical (PA) within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of the Department of Cardiac Surgery. The principal focus will be on participation in the operating room, facility with endoscopic saphenous vein harvest, radial harvest and assisting in other complex operations. Additional duties and responsibilities may include rounding on inpatient units, performing bedside procedures, thoracic organ transplant recovery and managing outpatients. Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a national leader in cardiovascular care and has a robust surgical practice. Not only are we a referral center for the Southeastern United States, we are the largest heart transplant program in the country. We have a dynamic, expanding complex coronary and valve program, a mature structural heart program and rapidly developing aortic program. Department/Unit Summary:
The Department of Cardiac Surgery provides comprehensive surgical services for adults and children with cardiovascular disease. The program is a nationally recognized pioneer in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and transplantation. The Va nderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute (VHVI) combines the services of cardiac surgery and cardiology to enhance overall patient care

Key Responsibilities
Position Qualifications: Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (or equivalent experience) and < 1 year experience. 12 months of physician assistant experience preferred; Inpatient acute care advanced practice nursing experience desirable.
