The Senior Laboratory Processing Technician is responsible for the timely completion of donor tissue processing including, but not limited to, DSAEK, DMEK, and graft pre-load. Responsible for assisting with maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities. Additional responsibilities include: laboratory procedures, blood sample management, consultation with Medical Directors and Designees, donor/tissue eligibility determinations and distribution functions.
Essential Duties of the Position:
Tissue evaluations (slit lamp and specular microscopy)
Prepare documentation of lab findings by collecting, analyzing, and documenting serology results and donor information
Processing of released donor tissue according to surgeon specifications
Donor medical record reviews
Ensure that all laboratory/quality control activities performed are documented in a thorough, accurate and professional manner
Perform required quality control functions to maintain compliance with SOPs, EBAA Medical Standards, and FDA regulations
Packaging and distribution of eligible tissue for transplant, research, and education
Works cooperatively with Distribution Department to ensure the best processing plan possible to meet the needs of the surgeons
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and obtaining CEBT status
Foster a spirit of cooperation with co-workers by being a leader and a trainer
Establish and maintain effective and positive communications with all LEBW staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to Perform Essential Functions:
Biological material handling and management
Flexible work schedule required, including some weekends as needed
Computer literacy including Microsoft and database software
Fine motor skills and dexterity
Ability to work with, motivate, retain and train staff
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
*BS Degree and/or equivalent of education and experience
*Minimum of 2 years performing eye banking functions including tissue evalulations and processing
*Experience in scientific or medical field
*CEBT preferred or obtain within one year of hire
