MLT needed for Microbiology and Clinical lab. Micro set up and plating, loading Cepheid and Biofire instruments. Also help out in main clinical lab when possible.

General Statement of Duties : Performs technical laboratory testing under the direct supervision of a medical technologist and phlebotomy when required.

Supervision Received : Reports to Lead Technologist and Laboratory Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised : None

Physical Demands : Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking required for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 lbs. requires visual acuity and normal color perception.

Working Conditions : Exposure to communicable diseases and toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a medical group and laboratory environment.

1.Performs laboratory tests and procedures under the direct supervision of a lead technologist or laboratory supervisor.

1. Documents daily QC and corrective action as needed.
2. Performs calibrations and proficiency testing as required.
3. Enters laboratory results in the LIS.
4. Collects data, prepares reports, and compiles statistics as directed.
5. Checks supply inventory.
6. Attends required meetings and participates in professional development activities.
7. Maintains patient confidentiality.
8. Performs related work as required.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, standards, and tests in order to accurately complete testing. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing in order to monitor quality control and troubleshoot. Knowledge of medical terminology to interact with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instruction and to recognize hazardous conditions. Skills in performing routine laboratory tests. Skills in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, laboratory staff, and medical staff. Skill in identifying and resolving problems. Ability to work during operation hours.

Education: AAS Degree in Medical Technology. Completion of a one year internship program in an accredited institution.

Experience: One year experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

Certification: As require by governmental agencies. ASCP or NCA preferred. NYS License required.
