The Health Technician (Hearing) position is in the Audiology Service at the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). This position is located at any of the four Audiology sites (La Jolla, Mission Valley, Chula Vista, and Oceanside) within the VASDHS. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Determines technical factors, sets controls and operates equipment and instruments. Sets up and adjusts specialized equipment with multiple features that requires precise patient positioning to operate correctly. Sets equipment parameters based on the patient's diagnosis or specific and/or individualized testing criteria. Uses a practical knowledge of the location and function of major body structure related to the specialized field in which the employee works. Assists during procedures by monitoring patient's condition, monitoring and recording data. Sets up all necessary accessories or supplies and advises other medical personnel of new equipment, accessories or supplies. Performs medical procedures such as cerumen irrigations, ABR's, VNG's, etc. Assists medical staff with or performs diagnostic procedures used to diagnose medical conditions. Serves as technical expert in the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment and instruments. Ensures proper cleaning and performs minor maintenance and adjustments. Provides procedural support and assistance of a technical, specialized, or support nature to health and medical personnel in the diagnosis or treatment of patient. Documents charts, directs patient care duties and patient safety. Operates and maintains medical instruments and equipment for diagnostic, research and treatment procedures. Provides follow-up care instructions and demonstrations for patients. Develops and maintains detailed records of all experimental or other protocols and results are neatly kept and catalogued in appropriate format. Maintains laboratory stock and orders materials as needed. Provides general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the service. Work Schedule: To include all tours to meet the needs of the organization. Variety of shifts Monday-Friday ranging from 7:00am-3:30pm, 7:30-4:00pm, 8am-4:30pm, 8:30am-5:00pm. Work Locations: **May be assigned duty at either La Jolla Audiology clinic or any of our 3 CBOC clinics including Chula Vista, Mission Valley or Oceanside as needed for clinic coverage on any given day.
