The Nursing Department at the Bruce W Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is looking to fill the 4 Medical Instrument Technician (Gastroenterology) positions. Three (3) are located in the main hospital located in Miami, Florida and one (1) is located at the William (Bill) Kling Outpatient Clinic located in Broward County, Sunrise, Fl. The position for Broward County CBOC will be temporary located in main facility, Miami VAHCS 1201 NW 16th St., Miami, FL 33125, until an estimated date of December 2021, when operations in the Broward Clinic may reopen. The Gastroenterology (GI) Technicians assist the providers in routine and advanced level endoscopic procedures, such as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). The technicians ensure proper performance and operation of equipment, prepare procedural rooms for performance of procedures, set up equipment, and reprocess endoscopic reusable medical equipment (RME). The GI Technician participates in the pre, intra, and post-procedure care of patients. Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Serves as subject matter expert for knowledge and handling of instruments, supplies, and equipment during GI procedures. Prepares procedural rooms for performance of GI procedures. Prepare procedure rooms in a timely fashion in between patients and procedures. Prepares, organizes, and maintains highly complex GI set ups. Observes and responds promptly to each stage of the GI procedures and anticipates the needs of the physician and/or registered nurse. Utilizes universal precautions and follows all infection control policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies, equipment. Assists the GPT members with the care of the patient, i.e., positioning, and obtaining supplies. Applies various monitoring equipment, i.e. BP/O2 sat/ ECG, etc., when assisting with patient preparation. Responsible for the accountability of all GI instruments and equipment during GI procedures. Assists the physician, and/or registered nurse with instrumentation necessary to perform the required procedure and treatment such as obtaining biopsies, brushings, performing polypectomies, inflation of balloon dilators, injection of contrast solutions and other agents during GI procedures. Orders all specialized GI accessories, including, but not limited to, snares, injection needles, esophageal and biliary stents are ordered through Logistics. Work Schedule: MIAMI: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Broward County CBOC: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
