This position is located within Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service at the West Roxbury campus. Position is full-time, 40 hours per week. Incumbent serves as a Nursing Assistant (NA)/Rehabilitation Aide and is assigned to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) of the VA Boston Healthcare System (VA BHS). The primary function of this position is to provide a wide range of patient care duties and administrative support for PM&RS. The NA/Rehabilitation Aide functions as a team member in the patient care delivery setting and must balance and prioritize clinical and administrative duties based on immediate clinic and patient needs. The NA/Rehabilitation Aide works under the supervisor of a Physical Therapist (PT) or Occupational Therapist (OT) and is responsible for the movement and transfer of patients with mobility impairments. Work is primary performed on the acute rehabilitation units oat the West Roxbury Campus. The Rehabilitation Aid/NA must be trained in proper methods of body mechanics and assists assigned patients with established rehabilitative activities such as bed mobility, transfers, walking programs and activities of daily living. The NA/Rehabilitation Aide may provide education and training to patients in the area of durable medical equipment including bathroom devices, braces, wheelchairs, ambulatory equipment, modified eating utensils and personal care items. Incumbent must adhere to the facility's rules, policies and procedures to ensure quality patient care. Other duties as assigned. The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is in the Excepted Service.
