***AMENDED TO EXTEND CLOSING DATE*** Medical Technologists at this level perform complex laboratory functions. Duties may include specific targeted laboratory responsibilities or projects such as laboratory safety officer, analyzer specialist, or quality control file maintenance. This position has a specific shift and areas of coverage operating Monday through Friday. The incumbent will be assigned to the Evening/Night Shift of the Clinical Laboratory. Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs laboratory tests efficiently to meet turnaround time requirements. Communicates effectively with providers and allied health professionals. Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity and sensitivity. Recognizes deviations from expected results, differentiating between abnormalities caused by disease, analyzer malfunction and compromised specimens. Serves as analyzer specialist for shift. Troubleshoots the more complex analytical issues. Provides technical training to new hires, and cross-trains current employees as requested by supervisor in order to fulfill educational and professional requirements. Coordinates inventory for automated analyzers as requested by supervisor. Tracks reagent usage, orders reagents and consumables and monitors expiration dates of supplies as requested by supervisor. Uses knowledge of word processing to generate reports for the supervisor as requested. Coordinates with Supervisor to assess laboratory performance to ensure compliance with accrediting agency standards. Gathers and prepares data for Performance Improvement projects as requested by supervisor. In addition to the experience above the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in applying a wide range of concepts, principles and methodology of the field to perform advanced techniques . Ability to modify or adapt established methods, procedures or techniques to resolve difficult or complex problems. Knowledge of the application of laboratory regulatory requirements. Ability to provide or coordinate staff development and training.
