Serves as a phlebotomist and specimen collection handler in the Specimen Handling Section, wards and outpatient clinics. Work may be performed in a laboratory or in patient care areas. Incumbent collects various specimens using different techniques using the knowledge of the human anatomy. Incumbent may be called upon to train other personnel in proper phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques. Prepares worksheets and numbers/labels specimens. Trains students and new employees to perform venipuncture and process specimens. Instructs patients for special/timed collections. Inventories supplies, maintains stock. receives persons visiting or calling the laboratory. Performs urine collection. Properly identifies patients as well as specimens using established policies. Files electronic test result records. Work Schedule: Primarily Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays. May be occasionally scheduled for other schedules as needed.
