This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The Lead Medical Technologist assists the Supervisor/Laboratory Manager by working in collaboration with team members for effective and efficient operation of the laboratory. This assignment requires specialized training and experience. The Medical Technologist Lead must have thorough knowledge of principles and operations of each of these sections extending beyond test performance. The incumbent must have a wide latitude for exercising independent judgment. The incumbent facilitates team or unit processes by working in collaboration with team members of employees to ensure that tasks are completed, and team priorities, goals, and achievements are coordinated with management. The Medical Technologist Lead sets the pace and demonstrates proper technique and processes. S/He reviews the work of other Medical Technologists and students to check for proper documentation, accuracy and completeness as needed. The Medical Technologist Lead is the liaison between the team members, other area leads and the Supervisor/Laboratory Manager reporting adverse or potential issues within each section. The Medical Technologist Lead also provides expertise to providers or other departments in the medical center for assisting with test recommendations or interpretation. The Medical Technologist Lead monitors inventory to ensure sufficient reagents and supplies are available and ready for use by anticipating requirements for regulatory studies and new lot preparations. The Medical Technologist Lead works with the Ancillary Testing Coordinator and/or Laboratory Manager to verify the order for proficiency and linearity studies annually and helps to update the active test menu with CAP as needed. One of the primary roles of the Medical Technologist Lead is to monitor quality assurance activities such as daily quality control for specified frequency and unusual trends or occurrences. The Medical Technologist Lead generates and transmits monthly statistical reports and maintains organized documentation of calibration, linearity, validation, and cross-comparison between instruments (internally and with CBOC's) and control ranges. The Lead Medical Technologist monitors instrument maintenance and ensures performance either by delegating responsibility or performing necessary tasks. The Medical Technologist Lead also delegates proficiency tests and QM monitor reports such as STAT turnaround times or specimen rejections studies and ensures submission before the deadline. The Lead Medical Technologist ensures compliance with rules and regulations of assorted regulatory agencies such as CAP, The Joint Commission, and OSHA.T he Medical Technologist Lead provides technical instruction: students may include new employees, rotating technologists, medical technology students, or medical school students.
