Located in the Salt Lake City Health Care System, Nursing Service, Sterile Processing, the incumbent is part of a surgical team, participating in planning and implementing complex procedures under the general supervision of the team and providing assistance to the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures. The incumbent of this position must meet all the requirements for ASA eligibility. The duties are listed below, but additional duties may apply: Sets up sterile fields properly in accordance with applicable laws and policies Prepares, organizes and maintains highly complex sterile surgical set-ups Follows all infection control and policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies and equipment Understands and follows the proper procedure and safety precautions for high level disinfecting instruments Functions as a primary scrub person for instruments, supplies and equipment during all surgical procedures Assures all supplies and equipment are available prior to surgical procedures Performs sponge and instrument counts with the highest degree of accuracy Accounts for all surgical instruments and equipment during surgical procedures Recognizes the hazards of anesthetic agents and responds to adverse conditions during the course of procedure Functions accurately under high stress situations and during complex medical procedures Participates with surgical team in the planning and implementation of complex procedures Observes and responds promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure Possesses extensive knowledge of highly technical medical instruments, the human anatomy and aseptic techniques. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
