A Mental Health Technician is expected to understand and implement individual treatment plans, record patient behavior and provide a safe, supportive environment for the patients. Technicians may assist in daily group and individual activities. Mental Health Technicians are responsible for direct patient care for a vulnerable population and must therefore be trustworthy and possess the highest moral character. The MHT must be aware of any threat to patient dignity and privacy; and report and issues immediately to leadership. Provides care to an adult patient population ranging from age 45 to 90.
Under the direction of the Nurse, performs sub-professional duties including providing patient care to meet the needs of activities of daily living; operation and maintenance of equipment. Takes and records vital signs and I/Os. Assists licensed staff and physicians as directed within approved standards. Performs other related duties such as assisting with group management, documenting group participation as directed. Assumes the responsibility for meeting the basic needs of all patients assigned in ADLs, socialization, and safe interaction with the unit community. Works collaboratively with the health care team, is customer focused and strives to meet unit and hospital goals. Provides quality care according to established practice standards and guidelines for the area(s) assigned. Must be willing/able to float to other (comparable) nursing units, as requested/needed. Functions as an active member of the Multidisciplinary Treatment Team under the direction and supervision of the RN.

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelorâ��s degree preferred.
Minimum Experience: Relevant patient care experience as a nursing assistant or mental health assistant in a hospital setting preferred. Good therapeutic communication skills required. Successful candidates who do not possess the preferred experience will be provided educational support after hire to obtain these credentials.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses: American Heart Association BLS CPR certification required. CPI certification within 90 days.
