This position is under Radiology Service. Position performs high level independence in two different ultrasound specialties, Diagnostic Vascular Ultrasound and Diagnostic General Medical Ultrasound. Percentage of time in each area is as follows: General Medical Ultrasound Imaging (RDMS) 50% Vascular Ultrasound Imaging (RVT) 50% Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: In addition to performing at the full performance level the General Ultrasound Technician will perform imaging of pre- and post-TIPS evaluation and chest in real time, which demonstrate movement of internal tissues and organs. Works closely with the radiologist when performing complex and specific examinations such as organ biopsies, fluid aspirations, cyst punctures, and catheter placement. Works with the general and neurosurgery service to perform intra-operative organ evaluations after resection, guidance for radiofrequency ablations (RFA's) for liver tumor, and the greater saphenous vein. In addition to performing at the full performance level in Vascular Ultrasound the following are required above full performance level. Vascular Ultrasound will perform exams that detect conditions such as atherosclerosis, aneurysm, embolus or thrombus, inflammatory conditions, varicose vein, location of placement etc. procedures like angioplasty, anticoagulant therapy, grafts - such as femoral or aorta and femoral artery bypass, dialysis grafts, pre-op vein mapping, aortal and iliac stents, renal stents, etc. Ensures exams are scheduled in a manner to optimize all the US suites time while maintaining flexibility to allow for emergency cases. This requires the prioritization of scheduled patients as well as the ability to accommodate the extreme emergency patient who may need immediate emergency surgery, etc. Participates in quality improvement as directed, to ensure that the Radiology Service complies with all performance measures established by the Radiology Service, Medical Center, Vision 21, VA Central Office, JCAHO, OSHA, SOARS, and Inspector General. Maintains sub-section's CQI programs as established by the Radiology Service CQI Committee, such as (1) Informs radiologists of uninterrupted studies; (2) Ensures all studies are correctly registered prior to performing the procedure, (3) Ensures all completed studies are "case edited" upon completion, and (4) Maintains the sub-section's "Pending Log List" to assure scheduling of requested studies and elimination of duplicated request slips.
